Description
200 MP camera with optical image stabilisation
The Moto G87 has a main camera of 200 megapixels with f/1.8 aperture, phase-detection autofocus and optical image stabilisation (OIS). By default, the camera combines 16 pixels into one, so images are saved at 12.5 MP with considerably more light per pixel – you'll notice this in low light and indoors. If you want every detail, select Ultra-Res mode and photograph at full resolution. Two times zoom is lossless, as the camera crops from the large sensor.
Beside it sits an ultra-wide 8 MP lens for landscapes and group photos, and on the front a 32 MP selfie camera. The camera island has four rings, but only two are cameras – the others house, among other things, a light sensor. Google Lens is built into the camera app, and night mode activates automatically when light runs out.

6.78-inch AMOLED with 120 Hz and 5,000 nits
The screen is a 6.78-inch Extreme AMOLED with 120 Hz refresh rate, 10-bit colour depth and the full DCI-P3 colour gamut. Peak brightness of 5,000 nits makes it easy to read in direct sunlight, and Water Touch makes it respond even when your fingers are wet. The glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, and SGS has certified the screen for reduced blue light and less motion blur.
The panel has 2,772 × 1,272 pixels (450 ppi). Worth knowing: according to Motorola, the phone renders the image at 1080p, and the screen's own circuitry scales it up to the panel's resolution.

Slim, durable and leather-inspired
Despite the 5,200 mAh battery, the G87 is just 7.38 millimetres thin and weighs 183 grams. The Pantone Overture colour is a dark, blue-grey tone, and the back has a leather-inspired surface that feels soft in your hand.
The phone is built to withstand everyday use. It's tested to IP68 and IP69 standards – it can survive 1.5 metres of fresh water for 30 minutes and powerful, hot water jets – and to the American military standard MIL-STD-810H. In the EU's drop test for energy labelling, it survived 270 drops without damage, giving it the best drop class, A.

Dimensity 6400, 5G and 256 GB storage
The processor is MediaTek Dimensity 6400 with eight cores up to 2.5 GHz, manufactured in 6 nm, and it has 8 GB RAM to help it along. The 256 GB storage is UFS 2.2 type and can be expanded with a microSD card up to 2 TB. The SIM tray holds a nano-SIM and memory card at the same time, and a second number can go on eSIM – so you don't have to choose between two numbers and extra storage.
The G87 has 5G including bands n78 and n28, which Nordic operators use, plus NFC for contactless payment, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.4.

5,200 mAh and stereo sound with Dolby Atmos
The 5,200 mAh battery charges at up to 30 W TurboPower. In the EU's standardised energy labelling test, one charge lasts 58 hours, and the battery retains at least 80% capacity after 1,200 full charge cycles. This gives energy class A, and repairability is rated B.
The stereo speakers feature Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio certification, and according to Motorola they deliver 280% more powerful sound than the previous moto g86.
Smart features
The phone ships with Android 16 and Google Gemini, which you can talk to, write to or show images. With Circle to Search, you circle something on screen and search for it instantly. You unlock with the in-screen fingerprint reader or facial recognition, and Moto Secure brings security settings together in one place. Motorola's gestures are included, such as turning on the torch with a quick double hand gesture.
Good to know
- Charger not included. The phone charges at 5–30 W via USB-C and supports USB Power Delivery. For full speed, you need a charger rated at least 30 W.
- Protective case included in the box, along with USB-C cable and SIM tool.
- Video up to 2K. The main camera films in 2K at 30 fps and in Full HD at 60 – not in 4K.
- 8 GB RAM. Motorola states "up to 24 GB", but the extra 16 GB is virtual memory borrowed from storage (RAM Boost). The feature can be disabled.
- No 3.5 mm jack. Headphones connect via USB-C or Bluetooth.
- Water-resistant, not waterproof. Protection applies to fresh water – not salt or pool water – and the phone should not be charged when wet.
- Security updates until June 2030 according to Motorola.
